Scent Hurdle Tournament

Another one in the bag. Racing was great from all the dogs.

Digger looked to be getting tired by the end of the day. But she was still game to go.

Cuda was solid and ran well all day.

Stark was rock solid all morning, he had to leave for the afternoon but we soldiered on.

Robbie managed to keep it together and concentrate all day; he can struggle with focusing.

Ahab ran well even though his owner tried to send him to the box with his leash still on in the last race. Well, it was the last race after all. He only picked up the wrong dumbbell and tried to bring it back once; he put it back and got the right one.

Whistler was her usual speedy self and even participated in the Border Collie / Kelpie race-off at the end of the day. She lost, but by less than half a second. She might have done better if she'd picked up the dumbbell right away instead of barking at it first. It was fun to see a couple of the fastest dogs in the game going head-to-head.

Jinx ran well, not bad for a 14 year old dog, she even posed for a photo op.

Scent Hurdle Tournament

Another tournament is in the bag for the team. The dogs did great after a summer of mostly rest and relaxation.

Digger was awfully confused because Kay was not there in the morning so we were forced to pull her from the morning tournament. She did great in the afternoon though once Kay had arrived to assure her she was doing everything right.

Cuda rocked it in the afternoon tournament. Speedy little thing that she is.

Stark was solid all day, barking his head off as soon as Grace went to place his dumbbell in the box. He sure loves to play.

Whistler was her usual bang-on self, she's so solid and consistent she's hard to write stories about.

Robbie needed a little encouragement from Kris a time or two but on the whole he's come into his own this year with his Scent Hurdling. Being a short little terrier he's never going to be super fast. He's cute though.

Jinx may need to retire, she was struggling with the jumps. Kris is aware of her age and is seriously considering retiring her if she struggles at the next tournament. The safety and health of our dogs is paramount.

And Ahab. He did fantastic in the afternoon but really, really struggled in the morning. This was his first time racing on grass and that's a whole new game for a dog. Grass has all kinds of wonderful, distracting smells; and the wind did not help either. However, after spending most of the morning practicing, the team agreed to keep letting him run so he could try and work out what he needed to do which meant everyone else sacrificed a chance at a lot of points for their dogs, he suddenly seemed to snap into realizing what he needed to do and ran great for the rest of the day. A big thank you to the team for letting Ahab figure out what he was doing.
